Control Tower – Persistent Systems

The Persistent Control Tower initiative was developed within the CEO office team to centralize data for the CEO, CxOs, and other leadership. The objective was to make organizational data accessible on multiple devices and integrate seamlessly with Persistent’s internal systems. This initiative aimed to provide leadership with real-time insights to steer the company effectively, akin to maneuvering a large ship with precision.

Role and Responsibilites

My role in this project was multifaceted:

  • Data Analysis: Analyzed organizational data to understand patterns and usage.
  • Persona Mapping: Identified which data each persona (CEO, group head, delivery head, sales head, etc.) interacted with.
  • UI/UX Design: Designed and engineered user interfaces in the form of dashboards and apps tailored to different personas.
  • Lead Developement for Design: Oversaw and helped dev team understand and develop various custom visualisations and interactions within PowerBI

Challenges

  • Complex Overlaps: Understanding the intricate overlaps of responsibilities and ensuring data security.
  • Heirarchy and RLS: We created the platform in such a way that RLS would ensure that relevant data is seen and designed information to ensure UI would not break.
  • Data Relevance: Ensuring relevant data was presented to each persona without overwhelming them with unnecessary information.
  • Persona interactions: Because the personas we high profile in the organisation, I had to make sure our time was well utilised, since rebooking the calendar meant overspillage of the dead line.

    Approach to Design

    Persona-Centric Analysis:

    • Analyzed one persona at a time to understand their daily workflow and data requirements.
    • Focused on identifying and solving for their specific data problems and needs.

    Prototype Validation:

    • Created quick prototypes to validate hypotheses with each persona.
    • Gathered feedback and iterated on the designs.

    Engineering and Design:

    • Implemented the solution using PowerBi platform.
    • Designed information systems tailored to each persona’s needs.

    Solution

    The final solution was a series of dashboards and apps that provided:

    • Centralized Data Access: Leadership could access all relevant data in one place.
    • Multi-Device Support: Ensured compatibility across various devices.
    • Seamless Integration: Integrated smoothly with Persistent’s internal systems.

    Result and Impact

    • Data Clarity: Eliminated data leaks and misinterpretations, ensuring accurate and timely insights.
    • Efficiency: Enhanced organizational efficiency by enabling leaders to make informed decisions quickly.
    • Business Performance: Contributed to increased KPI performance, leading to a rise in earnings and stock price.
